Annotation. Despite the sanctions, the European Union remains the largest trading partner of the Russian Federation. The European Union accounts for over 37% of the total international transport of goods carried by all modes of transport. Road transport plays a key role in ensuring foreign trade between Russia and the EU. In 2018 the share of the European Union in the total volume of the international road transport of Russia was estimated at 57%. Recent years have been characterized by a decrease in the imbalance in the transportation market - due to a more dynamic increase in export traffic. European destinations were and in the foreseeable future will remain the most important for Russian international road carriers. At the same time, the slow renewal of the rolling stock fleet, rising fuel prices, leasing payments, and road tolls prevent a more complete realization of the competitive advantages of the Russian motor transport business.
Key words. European Union, foreign economic relations (WEC), foreign trade transportation, international cargo transportation, road transport.
