According to CBRE research, a number of quality rooms in Kaliningrad will show almost 2 times increase by the start of FIFA World Cup 2018.
Currently, there are two international hotels in Kaliningrad: Radisson Blu hotel (178 rooms) and economy Ibis hotel (167 rooms). The main supply in the market is presented by local hotels. Local hotels are managed by owners and vary in quality and price. According to the information received from representatives of the hotel market of Kaliningrad, the occupancy of the hotels in the city ranges from 40% to 60% depending on the location of the hotel and the volume of the room stock.
As of the beginning of 2017, there are 51 hotels with a total room stock of about 2,205 hotel rooms in Kaliningrad. The offer of quality international hotel in the region is limited.
Mercure Kaliningrad hotel of 162 rooms and Holiday Inn of 125 rooms will be opened in Kaliningrad by the start of FIFA World Cup 2018.
Tatiana Belova Associate Director, Head of Hospitality & Tourism group CBRE in Russia said: “Kaliningrad is one of the most European cities in Russia due to its geographical location and historical past. While business activity in the city is not comparable with the major industrial centers of our country, tourism potential of the region is clearly ahead of the most of other regions. In addition to new quality hotels being opened in the region, it is necessary to stimulate their occupancy by introduction of simplified visa regime, e-visas, promotion of the region in European markets, the development of transport infrastructure, etc. Also the development of the SEZ will be fundamental for the region."
